Zack Snyder has been speaking with Entertainment Weekly about Batman v Superman, and took the opportunity to defend the much-maligned ending of Man Of Steel, suggesting that the mass carnage of the Metropolis-set showdown between Superman and Zod was supposed to have lasting consequences…
"I was surprised because that’s the thesis of Superman for me," explains Snyder, "that you can’t just have superheroes knock around and have there be no consequences." And while those consequences may not have been shown in Man Of Steel, Ben Affleck suggests they will be coming home to roost in the forthcoming film…
"One of the things I liked was Zack’s idea of showing accountability and the consequences of violence," says Affleck, "and seeing that there are real people in those buildings. And in fact, one of those buildings was Bruce Wayne’s building so he knew people who died in that Black Zero event."
Sounds like Batman will be carrying the fight for all those fans who thought Superman was a little gung-ho on the collateral damage front… Directed by Snyder and co-starring Henry Cavill, Amy Adams and Jesse Eisenberg, Batman v Superman will open in the US and UK on 25 March 2016.
