To get the most out of the games on the Virtual Console you'll need this controller which has a D-pad, two analogue sticks, four action buttons and two shoulder buttons. It can't be used to play GameCube games, though, you'll need to hang on to your Cube controller for that.

In order to play multiplayer with Wii games you'll need more of the Wii-motes, which come complete with two AA batteries needed to power them.
Cost: £30 (though you can get it bundled with Wii Play for £35)
