You wont get Call of Duty Black Ops 3's story in one playthrough

We've been promised the breaking of new ground every year with COD and this time it's Treyarch's turn with Call Of Duty: Black Ops 3. Not just content with the series' first of customisable Call Of Duty characters, the team is apparently focussing on creating a multi-layered narrative that means you'll only see a small part of it the first time you play through the story. Environments will be open for you to explore, letting you discover the story in your own time and encouraging repeat playthroughs.

In a feature in the new issue of Edge Magazine, campaign director Jason Blundell explains that the story will be open to multiple interpretations too. "You may have one character who you see in a certain way," he says. "But then, as you come to believe something else about the story, you may listen to a line of their dialogue again and slap your forehead thinking 'why did I hear it so wrong the first time? Why didn't I understand that nuance?' We expect people to be passionate, to be furious with each other about what they believe happened, or what the purpose of a level was. We've written it so the facts support multiple interpretations."
