Yoda spin-off movie in the pipeline?
Disney exploring potential standalone adventures
With J.J. Abrams finally installed as director for Star Wars: Episode VII , Disney executives can start thinking about how to make the most of their newly-acquired franchise, including a potential series of spin-off movies.
THR had previously reported that Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg were exploring possible storylines to develop some of the series' supporting characters in spin-off movies, and a rumour has now emerged concerning who the first of these might focus on.
AICN reports that the first standalone picture will focus on Yoda. Whether this will be the tale of a younger Yoda or a continuation of Yoda’s existing story, we don’t know, but apparently the little green fellow is the first choice to receive some dedicated development.
If that sounds promising, we do feel compelled to warn you that the site also states that George Lucas has been pitching a Jabba the Hutt spin-off around LucasFilm. Presumably Jar-Jar is next in line.
More details as we get them. In the meantime, we can look forward to Episode VII , which at this point is still slated for a 2015 arrival…
