Xbox 360 sells 1 million units in Q4

Microsoft sold one million Xbox 360s in its fourth fiscal quarter ended June 30, just 100,000 fewer than it did during the same period a year ago. The company said fourth quarter revenue for its Entertainment & Devices Division (EDD) increased eight per cent year-on-year to $1.9 billion, “primarily due to higher Windows Phone revenue, offset in part by lower Xbox 360 platform revenue”. It also noted that Xbox Live transactional revenue grew nearly 20 per cent in the quarter. Full year EDD revenue rose from $9.6 billion to $10.2 billion.

EED operating losses for the quarter were reduced from $252 million a year earlier to $110 million. For the full year, operating income was up from $380 million to $848 million. Across its whole business, Microsoft said fourth quarter revenue grew from $18 billion to $19.9 billion, while full year revenue rose from $73.7 billion to $77.8 billion. The company made a fourth quarter profit of $4.97 billion, compared to a loss of $492 million a year earlier, and an annual profit of $21.9 billion, up from $17 billion.

At E3 last month, Microsoft confirmed that Xbox One will launch in 21 markets this November priced at $500/£430.
