Xbox 360 season passes will transfer to Xbox One

Microsoft has announced the ‘Season Pass Guarantee’, a new initiative designed to smooth the transition from Xbox 360 to Xbox One. Users who purchase a season pass for participating Xbox 360 titles will automatically receive a season pass for the Xbox One version of the game, meaning they won’t have to repurchase DLC when they pick up the new console.

The platform holder says users must own the same game on both consoles in order to receive Season Pass Guarantee benefits. Activision, EA and Ubisoft are already signed up to the program - Call of Duty Ghosts and Battlefield 4 have been confirmed as participating games - and more publishers and titles are due to be announced in the coming months.

According to IGN, CoD Ghosts and Battlefield 4 season passes on PlayStation will also carry over from PS3 to PS4, but Sony hasn’t made any official announcement about plans to do this with any other games. Player stats for both shooters will also be transferable between current and next-gen consoles, Activision and EA have confirmed.

Microsoft revealed yesterday that Xbox One will launch in only 13 of its 21 previously announced markets this November. The eight delayed regions - Belgium, Denmark, Finland, Netherlands, Norway, Russia, Sweden, and Switzerland - will host their own Xbox One launches as soon as possible in 2014.
