X-Men Stars Pick Their Favourite X-Men
Exclusive: The First Class gang play favourites
Nicholas Hoult (Beast)
“Wolverine. And he’s in all four of the previous movies, which was nice when I was watching them for research.
People would say to me, ‘I’m working, what are you doing?’ ‘I’m watching the X-Men films.’ ‘Oh cool!’”
Michael Fassbender (Magneto)
“My favourite X-Man? I’ve got to say Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.
He did a fantastic job with that, fantastic."
Bryan Singer (producer)
“I think mine has always been Professor X. Which was another reason that drove me to make First Class .
Just because he’s powerful, idealistic and vulnerable all at the same time, and I’ve always been fond of him.
"Although if I could choose to be a character I’d be Nightcrawler, because then I could go wherever I wanna go!”
Kevin Bacon (Sebastian Shaw)
“I like Professor X and Magneto; it’s great to see in First Class how their relationship started out. It’s a very, very clever take on the other movies.
And the change in Michael [Fassbender] over the course of the movie is fantastic.”
Matthew Vaughn (director)
“It’s hard because I like so many of them. I’ve always had a soft spot for Beast because I like the idea of having this highly intelligent guy who looks like a blue werewolf!
"But then you can’t help but love Magneto too – so I would say for me it’s a tie between Beast and Magneto.”
Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique)
“I’m going to be really boring and pick Charles Xavier, because he’s cute and adorable and I love James McAvoy!
And he’s the nicest character by far of all the X-Men.”
Rose Byrne (Moira MacTaggart)
“I really like the baddies. I think January Jones has a fun character [Emma Frost, The White Queen].
She’s kind of badass. And Kevin Bacon too – they both looked like they were having fun.”
James McAvoy (Charles Xavier)
“That’s such an easy question: Gambit. In the cartoons he has this kind of weird New Orleans accent, which I really liked, kind of Cajun.
I loved that, because it’s so rare to find un-generic voices on telly, in a kids’ show. That was almost his best mutant power, his accent!”
X-Men: First Class is released on 2 June 2011.
