X-Men: Days Of Future Past opens to $111 million
Seventh X-Men installment launches big
X-Men: Days of Future Past scored big on the Memorial Day box-office weekend earning an estimated $111 million over the four-day weekend in the US. Internationally, it was Fox's biggest ever opening, with $302 million in total.
The US opening ranks Days of Future Past just behind The Last Stand which opened on the same weekend in 2006 to the chime of $122.8 million (over four days).
Still, the figure makes the film the fifth biggest opening ever for a Memorial Day weekend and one of the best openings of 2014.
Increased cinema ticket sales in the last few years should probably have seen Days Of Future Past topple its 2006 installment, yet in an increasingly crowded market of comic-book movies, competition is somewhat more fierce than when X-Men was arguably in its heyday.
The movie, costing $200 million-plus, stars actors from the original X-Men trilogy and X-Men: First Class , including James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Hugh Jackman, Jennifer Lawrence, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Peter Dinklage and Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart.
