X-Men: Apocalypse will be set in 1983

Simon Kinberg has revealed the exact year in which forthcoming sequel X-Men: Apocalypse will be set, with the events of the new film to kick off in 1983.

For those who haven't been paying attention, that is ten years after the (early) events of Days Of Future Past , leaving the writers plenty of room to re-draw the newly retconned universe our heroes are inhabiting.

It also means we'll be following the characters some 20 years after they first appeared in First Class , which might see the likes of Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy beginning to be aged up.

Just how Apocalypse himself will be introduced into proceedings remains to be seen, but something is clearly set to happen in the intervening ten years that awakens the world's oldest mutant…

Directed by Bryan Singer, X-Men: Apocalypse will open in the UK on 19 May 2016. We're excited already!
