We're just a little over a month away from the premiere of X-Men: Apocalypse, so get ready for marketing to kick into high gear. This week, that means a retro-style video narrated by George Takei meant to evoke the sort of awe and mystery that shows like In Search Of… (which was hosted by fellow Star Trek alum Leonard Nimoy) inspired in audiences years ago.
If you prefer your X-Men a bit more modern, Quicksilver is happy to oblige, thanks to a partnership with UK broadband internet provider, Sky Fibre. It's pretty corny, but getting to watch the speedy mutant in action is always a treat.
There's just one problem I have with these ads: the Quicksilver commercial is clearly taking place in modern day, while the movie itself is set in 1983. No, no, young Cyclops, young Storm, and young everyone is all wrong. I demand continuity in my X-Men commercials, dammit! As Deadpool would say, these timelines are so confusing!
Or maybe I could just relax and enjoy the campiness. That works too.
Directed by Bryan Singer and starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Oscar Isaac, and Jennifer Lawrence, X-Men: Apocalypse will hit UK cinemas on May 18, 2016 and then start screening in the US on May 27, 2016.
