The Mists of Pandaria expansion will bring many sweeping changes to the World of Warcraft. A new talent system, pet battles, the continent of Pandaria, the Monk class, and most importantly, those kung fu fighting Pandarens. The expansion may not have a release date yet, but there’s a lively beta going on at the moment. Our Pandaren Monk took a tour of the Wandering Isle, the new starting area. We found dizzying heights, a brilliant color palette, stunning architecture, and a host of playful surprises.
The overall tone of the expansion is light and fun, but not without a sense of urgency. A storm is brewing off the coast of Pandaria, and players who embark on this epic journey will have important choices to make. Prepare for your journey by checking out our video tour of the Wandering Isle, the new Monk Class, and the Pandarens themselves!
The Wandering Isle
The Wandering Isle is as mysterious as it is beautiful. This secluded island is where all Pandarens begin their adventure. Here you’ll find some of the most amazing buildings and breathtaking views in all of Azeroth. Whether or not you choose to follow the path of the Monk, there’s much to learn in the dojo of Master Shang Xi. From there it’s on to the Wu-Song village, which is under vicious Hozen attack. We don’t want to spoil all the surprises the Mists are hiding, but check out the video for some gorgeous scenery and shocking transformations at the Singing Pools.
Playing with Pandarens
Pandarens are the bon vivants of the Warcraft world. Food, drink, martial arts and architecture; these pursuits are the defining aspects of Pandaren life. These furry fellows also have unique racial abilities that let them stun foes, level fast and get the most out of their meals. When you’re customizing your Pandaren, keep one thing in mind: down the line you’ll have to choose between Horde or Alliance. Make sure your panda has an appropriately dastardly or saintly look ready to suit your choice.
The new Monk class
Like the Druid, the Monk is an extremely versatile class. Depending on what specialization you pick, you’ll have a very different combat roll. The Brewmaster can tank, the Windwalker puts out heavy DPS, and the Mistweaver can heal teammates. No matter what you choose, you’ll have Roll, a dodge ability similar to Blink. It’s great for getting out of trouble or for anytime you want a burst of speed. There might be some wailing and gnashing of teeth when this move hits the arena.
