Woody Allen to create first TV series for Amazon Studios
Flushed with the Golden Globe success of original series Transparent, Amazon Studios is about to make more headlines with the announcement that it has signed Woody Allen to create his first TV series.
According to Variety, Allen will write and direct the currently untitled project, which has already received a full season order and will appear exclusively on Amazon Prime Instant Video.
"Woody Allen is a visionary creator who has made some of the greatest films of all-time, and it’s an honour to be working with him on his first television series," said Amazon Studios Vice President, Roy Price.
"From Annie Hall to Blue Jasmine, Woody has been at the creative forefront of American cinema and we couldn’t be more excited to premiere his first TV series exclusively on Prime Instant Video next year.”
As for Allen himself, the director was as deadpan as ever when asked to provide a comment on the announcement…
"I don’t know how I got into this," says Allen. "I have no ideas and I’m not sure where to begin. My guess is that Roy Price will regret this."
