We've barely had time to pack away the tinsel from the TF Christmas tree and already those eager people at Cannes are in full swing. They've revealed that Chinese auteur Wong Kar-Wai will be heading up the competition jury at this year's festival, which runs from May 17-28.
Wong's directorial debut, As Tears Go By, was the first Hong Kong film ever to be screened at the festival in 1989. The lenser has since been back several times, even nabbing a Best Director prize for Happy Together in 1997.
Wong is gearing up to shoot Lady From Shanghai with Nicole Kidman in Russia but he took time out to express his joy at his Cannes appointment. "Each city has its own language. In Cannes, it is the language of dreams," he gushed. "Along with my fellow jurors, I look forward to sharing the dreams created by some of the most gifted talents in contemporary cinema."
