Wonder Woman TV Show Now Heading For The CW
David E Kelley’s infamous version of the DC superhero may have crashed and burnt at ABC but the CW plans to do a Smallville on Wonder Woman
According to Vulture , “the CW, Warner Bros. TV, and DC Comics have found a new way to revive the legend of Diana of Themyscira. The plan this time: origin story, all the way.”
The series is currently in development under the working title of Amazon , with the pilot being written by is being written by Allan Heinberg ( Grey's Anatomy , The OC – he also wrote a Young Avengers comic book in 2005, so he has superhero credentials). Like Smallville , it will concentrate on Diana Prince/Wonder Woman as a fledgling crime fighter, learning about her powers and her destiny. Please note: the CW has not yet committed to making a pilot; that will depend on how the script is received.
If the show does get made, then the CW will have two DC series on air concurrently (presuming Arrow doesn’t get swiftly cancelled, which, looking at the trailers and listening to the buzz on the ’net, doesn’t seem likely). Crossover potential ahoy!
So, once again we can ask: who should play Wonder Woman? With the proviso that she’ll need to be young this time (although Tom Welling was – what? – 65 or something and still just out of High School when Smallville finished).
