The modern X-Men era is about to go through a major change heading into 'Destiny of X,' and it appears to all come down to Wolverine - not surprising, if you consider one of his nicknames for decades has been 'Weapon X.' The upcoming twin 5-issue series X Lives of Wolverine and X Deaths of Wolverine are planned to be woven together as a weekly 10-part comics event (similiar to House of X and Powers of X) that follows Logan as he travels through time to "prevent the death of a key mutant figure."

To save this as-yet-unrevealed "key mutant figure," Wolverine will be traveling through time - and particularly crossing major moments in his storied life (remember, he's over a 100 years old, having being born Jamie Hewlett in the late 1800s.)

Check out this trailer for X Lives / Deaths of Wolverine:

Wolverine and X-Force writer Benjamin Percy is taking point on the twin X Lives/Deaths of Wolverine series, joined by his X-Force artistic colleague Joshua Cassara and incoming artists Federico Vincentini. Longtime Wolverine artist Adam Kubert is drawing the main covers for all 10 issues of this twin series event.

Here's a look at Kubert's X Lives of Wolverine #1 cover (which kicks off the event January 19), along with variant covers by Mr. Garcin, Peach Momoko, Ron Lim, Will Sliney, Todd Nauck, Arthur Adams, Ed McGuinness, Joshua Cassara, Mark Bagley, Jorge Molina, Adi Granov, Marco Turini (two versions), and Tyler Kirkham (two versions).

And here is a three-page unlettered preview of X Lives of Wolverine #1:

Like a quick one-two punch, X Deaths of Wolverine #1 comes out one week later on January 26. Kubert has drawn the main cover, with variants from Mr. Garcin, Dan Jurgens, Rickie Yagawa, Sam Kieth, Juann Cabal, Mark Bagley, Mahmud Asrar, Gerald Parel, Stephanie Hans, Ryan Brown (two versions), and Tyler Kirkham (two versions).
