Elder Scrolls spinoff speedrun record drops 84% in a day after $10,000 competition kicks off
The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard is back and ready for it all over again
Speedrunners are now decimating the record for The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard, just a few days after a competition for $10,000 was announced.
Earlier this week, streamer and YouTuber MoistCritikal announced a speedrunning competition for the long-forgotten Elder Scrolls spinoff. Users have until May 17 to record the best time possible for the $10,000 prize, but there's also prizes up for second and third place, as well as a prize for the single wildest speedrunning trick.
Now, just a few days later, the previous speedrunning record for Redguard has been torn to shreds. As per the tweet below, six speedrunners have already beaten the previous world record for Redguard, which was recorded by speedrunner Solitaan at one hour, 58 minutes, and 34 seconds.
Did You Know: The speedrun record for The Elder Scrolls Adventures: Redguard has been cut down to about an eighth of its previous length of ~two hours? There is currently a $10,000 speedrunning challenge being held for the game, which started yesterday. pic.twitter.com/csUmktYGgMMay 4, 2023
The world record for Redguard now stands at 17 minutes and 14 seconds at the time of writing. Solitaan's speedrun was no doubt a valiant effort, and the speedrunner even provided a guide to others on speedrunning skips, but that record has really quickly been decimated by others.
It's actually sort of surprising that speedrunners have found new tricks to a game that first released in 1998. Redguard's new record just goes to show you should never count out a game as having been completely exploited for speedrunning skips, as there could always be new hacks waiting in the wings.
We wish all Redguard speedrunners the best of luck with their attempts at the $10,000 prize. If you're interested in speedruns surrounding other Elder Scrolls games, it's worth keeping an eye on this Discord channel, where speedrunners regularly gather to discuss tips and tricks.
Perhaps we'll see a new world record for Redguard before The Elder Scrolls 6 is eventually here.
