Will Doctor Who make an appearance in The LEGO Movie Sequel?
Even though the Academy didn't agree, The LEGO Movie was one of 2014's best movies, garnering plenty of critical acclaim along with $468 million at the box office. It's no surprise then that a sequel (and spin-offs) are on the way, and the possible inclusion of one of television's most popular characters will surely increase excitement further.
Rob Schrab - who will be replacing Phil Lord and Chris Miller at the helm in the sequel - was a guest on the Harmontown podcast earlier this week, and he teased that Warner Bros. are in talks with the BBC to have Doctor Who appear in The LEGO Movie Sequel. Given LEGO's recent collaboration with BBC - a Peter Capaldi voiced Doctor Who fought alongside Batman, Gandalf and Wyldstyle in Lego Dimensions - the odds are good that the deal will come to fruition.
The director didn't say much more than that, so at this stage it's difficult to surmise whether it will just be a cameo or a more sizeable role, but Doctor Who fans will doubtless get a kick out of seeing the character showing up as an animated LEGO. It's almost enough to make you start singing 'everything is awesome' again.
The LEGO Batman Movie arrives in UK and US cinemas on February 10 2017, while The LEGO Movie Sequel is slated for a May 2018 release.
