Wii launches News Channel
News at 11? Never again
Don't you just love it when the news makes the news? Well even if you cynically answered "no," you're still likely to get a kick out of this. Nintendo announced that its Wii News Channel will launch tomorrow, January 27. But why wait, we've got ours up and running right now, and looking below will show you exactly what we're so excited about. Or you can right-clickhere to you save it to your iPod.
The interface is mesmerizing. If you’ve played around with the Wii’s Weather Channel will be familiar with flicking about the globe, but it’s the other bells and whistles that make cruising the news far more fun than it has a right to be. When viewing the globe from far away, news stories stack themselves as tiles, and disperse themselves to their area of origin as you move in closer. Speaking of zooming, the way the text scatters and aligns itself like soldiers doing a field routine as you press the + and – buttons is incredibly entertaining to watch.
Not only is all this worth checking out, but the charming presentation could have you combing the news everyday like a hardened blogger. There's plenty of categories to browse, and with the Associated Press supplying the stories and pictures, hopefully this venture will stay as fair and balanced as aWarioWare minigame.
Nintendo of America President, Reggie Fils-Aime says, "What Wii has done for video gaming, we hope it will also accomplish for news." So does that mean that in the future we can use or Wii remotes to adjust Wolf Blitzer's tie or tussle Soledad O'Brien's hair? Knowing Nintendo, it'll be something decidedly less creepy.
