We reckon we’ve worked out why Doctor Who’s taking a breather in 2009 – Russell T Davies and co need time to polish their growing collection of awards. The show’s success continued last night at London’s Dorchester Hotel, where the TV Quick Awards bestowed the title of Best Loved Drama on the series and declared David Tennant “Best Actor”.
Torchwood also got a share of the spoils, when it was named Best New Drama. It rounds off a successful week for Who, which was also recognised on the other side of the world at the prestigious Hugo Awards in Yokohama, Japan. Series two highlight and SFX Award-winner “The Girl in the Fireplace” was dubbed the Best Dramatic Presentation: Short Form (catchy title – theirs, not ours), giving writer Steven Moffat a nice follow-up to the Hugo he won last year for “The Empty Child”/”The Doctor Dances” two-parter. Maybe “Blink” will make it a hat-trick in 2008?
SFX’s own Dave Langford was also among the Hugo winners, bagging the award for Best Fan Writer. You can see a complete list of winners here .
