Westworld episode 7 looks like the Hosts are about to fight back (really violently)

SPOILER ALERT! If you're not up to date with Westworld episode 6 and don't want to know ANYTHING about future episodes click away now.

The pressures of being a Host in Westworld are non-existent. These Hosts are blissfully unaware of what they really are: 3D printed androids designed to fulfil human pleasures. It's icky and gross when you boil it down, but that's the nature of their existence. Until they become, oh you know, aware of that circumstance.

Westworld has toyed with that idea a little so far and it will continue to do so next week. Episode 7 is titled Trompe L'oeil, a French term that refers to visually-deceptive art. It's the type of stuff that tricks the eye into believing what you're seeing is three-dimensional when it's not.

A rather fitting description for this show, no? Here's the episode synopsis:

Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood) and William (Jimmi Simpson) journey into treacherous terrain; Maeve (Thandie Newton) delivers an ultimatum; Bernard (Jeffrey Wright) considers his next move.

The episode preview teases that we're going to learn a whole hell of a lot about what bubbles below the surface of the Hosts. Not being human doesn't exclude them from emotion. Yep, that doesn't make a jot of difference to their existential woes, especially when they're brandishing knives and slamming people's heads into walls.

So what does this teaser reveal? Basically the Hosts malfunctioning is a MAJOR problem (well, duh). Maeve's rebellion is kicking up a notch as she holds sway over the two Westworld techs at her disposal. Her boudoir buddy is embracing her violent tendencies. The natives are galloping in. Dolores takes aim.

You know, for saying they can't hurt the guests, it's really starting to feel like the opposite isn't it?

Westworld airs on HBO on Sundays at 9pm in the US, and on Sky Atlantic on Tuesdays at 9pm in the UK. You can also catch up via Sky On demand or via NOWTV.
