We nearly got a big Game of Thrones season 7 spoiler from Jaime Lannister
Spoilers, spoilers everywhere. Game of Thrones season 7 slip-ups can come from anywhere: set photos, a leaked synopsis, and very nearly Jamie Lannister himself. In a recent interview Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays the one-handed Lannister, almost revealed what sounds suspiciously like Jaime’s main role in the new season of Thrones. Possible spoilers follow.
In an interview with The Daily Beast, Coster-Waldau’s tongue was probably a bit too loose for HBO’s liking – but he managed to stop himself before saying too much, the spoilsport. Speaking about Jamie Lannister, the Danish actor said, “He’s not like his sister and brother, but he’s been on the battlefield his whole life, and knows about people’s weaknesses and loving someone unconditionally—because he loves his sister unconditionally.”
So far, he’s not delving into spoiler territory. But there’s more…
“Plus, there are no other suitors. Well, that’s not true… but he has to step up and take his father’s place. Wow, I was about to reveal something from Season 7 and thought, ‘What am I doing?’”
Does it tell us much? Not really. Am I going to read between the lines? Absolutely.
It sounds like someone needs to rule alongside Cersei, and it can’t be Jaime for obvious icky reasons. Jamie could then step into his father Tywin’s shoes and become a great manipulator behind the scenes, even if that means begrudgingly finding a betrothed for Cersei. This could cause a great deal of tension between brother and sister. Or maybe they’ll get involved in some Lannister-on-Lannister killing action, just like what happened to between Tywin and Tyrion. That’s the dream, anyway.
Game of Thrones season 7 will debut July 16 on HBO in the US and July 17 on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
