South African AIDS orphans sing for their survival in this low-res but highly moving doc from British filmmaker and charity worker Paul Taylor. Followed over a three-year period, these impossibly optimistic moppets are shown gelling into a talented choir that travels the world to publicise their plight – from recording in London to sharing a New York benefit with Paul Simon. For all the giddy globetrotting, the pandemic death toll is sadly never far from their or the audience’s thoughts. Limited resources make for a no-frills film, but you’ll be hard pushed to find a more honestly spirit-lifting show of triumph over adversity in current cinema. And all profits go towards the upkeep of the children’s impoverished Agape residence, so splash out.
