Watchmen now shorter
Zack Snyder’s current cut is 2 hours and 35 mins
Despite earlier attempts by director Zack Snyder to keep Watchmen around 2 hours and 45 minutes, he’s had to edit the film down a little.
Don’t panic, though – it’s not like an hour will be missing. "We're getting really close," producer Deborah Snyder tells Sci Fi. "We're at two hours and 35 minutes."
Though the Snyders have a shared passion to keep the film as long as possible, it looks like the studio wants them to keep on slicing.
Closer to the graphic novel
"The movie's pretty long ... compared to 300, which was an hour and 58 minutes,” says Zack. The director's cut of Watchmen is about three hours and 10 minutes long. It has even more than the theatrical version as far as the detail that gets even closer to the graphic novel."
And then there are the other DVD versions promised to keep us all happy.
"The Black Freighter version of the movie that we're working on- which has the ins and outs of the Black Freighter comic book woven through it via animation - will be about three hours and 40 minutes. So there's a huge epic version of Watchmen, which will probably come out after the movie's theatrical release, for hardcore fans."
The more the merrier, we say…
