I think most of us can agree that Darth Maul was one of the few good things to come out of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. With his distinctive looks, quiet-but-threatening demeanor and ferocious fighting style, he gave me chills. Well, I'm happy to say those chills returned upon watching "Darth Maul: Apprentice," a new Star Wars fan film that explores the Zabrak's history as the secret protege of Darth Sidious. Check it out:
Other than one of the Jedi wearing what is obviously a repainted Sub-Zero mask (I'm not even making a joke here, that is literally the exact same mask the ice fighter wears in the 2011 Mortal Kombat reboot), the production values here really shine. The lightsaber battles are expertly choreographed, the story is minimal but believable, and fans can get a new look at Darth Maul without it compromising what we loved about the character.
Bravo, T7 Production. May lucrative careers in filmmaking be with you.
