One Call of Duty: Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 player pretended they received in-game items for free thanks to a developer error, but have since found to be trolling.

As reported earlier today on November 29 by ModernWarzone on Twitter, it was claimed that players were receiving in-game unlocks that they shouldn't have access to in both Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2. The Twitter account claimed players were getting hold of weapon skins, weapon attachments, and even Operator bundles via the in-game store for free.

However, this has since turned out to not be the case at all. Responding to a follower just a few hours later, ModernWarzone clarified that yes, the original claim was just a "troll tweet." Call of Duty players aren't in any such luck for unlocking items they shouldn't have access to after all.

To suggest Call of Duty developer Infinity Ward would accidentally hand out in-store purchases for free was quite the ploy. Just earlier this month, publisher Activision Blizzard announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 had successfully grossed over $1 billion in record time for the franchise at large. 

Considering Call of Duty's status as Activision's Blizzard's cash cow (or one of many, depending on how you view Overwatch 2 and World of Warcraft), keeping store items out of the hands of players who aren't willing to pony up the cash for said purchases is no doubt top priority for publisher and developer alike.
