Warner Bros revives Akira remake
Jaume Collet-Serra to direct on a reduced budget
Warner has decided to revive its troubled mission to remake classic manga film Akira , with Jaume Collet-Serra set to return to the director's chair.
Collet-Serra had been in place to direct the film around 18 months ago, only for the studio to balk over a potential $90 million budget.
Variety reports that Collet-Serra will now return on a budget somewhere closer to $60 million, and the studio is apparently keen to get things back up and running once more.
Collet-Serra had previously assembled a cast that included Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Stewart, Helena Bonham Carter and Ken Watanabe. Whether any or all of those elect to return remains to be seen.
Warner has been trying to get this done for many, many years now, so we won't be holding our breath until the cameras start rolling. That said, if Collet-Serra can control the budget, it might actually be for real this time...
