Warhammer 40K MMO announced

A massively multiplayer online game based on Games Workshop's nightmarish future world of Warhammer 40,000 has been announced by the wargame maker and THQ today, with development to be handled by Vigil Games, a newly created studio owned by THQ.

But, Warhammer 40K fans needn't worry about the developer's unproven credentials. The studio itself might not be responsible for any big hitters, but the creative noggins employed there certainly are, with the high-level staff including experiencedfolks from Epic Games, Bethesda and seasoned MMO devs Mythic and NCSoft.

Concrete details on the game's scale and scope have yet to appear, but we'd bet against Warhammer 40K's online battlegrounds managing to span the full universe of Games Workshop's tabletop game. Instead, expect a focus perhaps on a single planet, fought over by the game's main factions - likely the same races that appear in THQ's Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War real-time strategy series.
