Want more hardcore 2D temple raiding? Kickstart La-Mulana 2
Temple of doom
You know what the world needs more of? Games that fall into the Archaeological Exploration Adventure category. That's the genre seemingly invented by the original La-Mulana, which was a heartfelt tribute to classic MSX games and got re-released for PC and WiiWare. Now, the legend returns with La-Mulana 2--provided the game can drum up enough funding.
Developer Nigoro has taken to Kickstarter, showing off the sequel to the beloved indie sidescroller. If you never played the original La-Mulana, it's hailed for offering dozens of hours' worth of incredible difficulty, with tricky whip-and-jump platforming, devilishly cryptic puzzles, and a plethora of instant death traps. La-Mulana 2 looks to deliver the same old-school challenge--along with the deeply satisfying sense of accomplishment that comes from finally solving that one damn puzzle.
LM2 stars the spunky Lumisa Kosugi, daughter of the original's hero Lemeza. She'll be traipsing through Eg-Lana, the darker, far more evil backside of the original La-Mulana temple. Whereas the first game had a Mayan and Aztec aesthetic, LM2 takes on Norse mythology, with all the terrifying demigods and monsters that come with it. If you're a fan of hardcore, gratifying gameplay, you can show your support at the La-Mulana 2 Kickstarter page.

Expect those stone tablets to be one of the MANY mystifying puzzles (that true explorers solve without Internet FAQs).
Spikes aren't instant death--which is good, because otherwise this game would be impossible.
If you look closely, you can spot the return of the ever-watchful eye that zaps you with lightning if you deface the ruins. In other words, don't start whipping random walls willy-nilly.
That boulder. Those skeletons. This CANNOT end well.
Those god-forsaken, constantly-getting-you-killed bats are back, baby!
Lumisa may be an archaelogical rookie compared to her father, but we have faith that she'll conquer this Norse Metroidvania temple.
