Voyage Of The Demeter gets director
Ruzowitzky in talks for horror flick...
Austrian director Stefan Ruzowitzky, who directed the Oscar-winning film The Counterfeiters , is in talks to direct The Last Voyage Of The Demeter .
What is the Demeter? Dracula fans will remember that it’s the name of the ship that transported the vampire from Transylvania to London in Bram Stoker’s tome.
The script has been sat gathering dust for a decade. Written by Season Of The Witch scribe Bragi Schut, it’s been described by The Hollywood Reporter as “reminiscent of the first movie in the Alien franchise”.
Presumably because it takes place entirely aboard a ship inhabited by a murderous creature, not because extra-terrestrials are involved. In the original book, the Demeter washed up in pieces. We don't think the film will have a very happy ending.
Both Robert Schwentke and Marcus Nispel have flirted with the project before, but the period setting and necessity of shooting on water sent them packing.
Can Ruzowitzky do what they dared not?
