Vin Diesel suggests Groot wont be his only Marvel character
And refers to a potential “merging of brands”
Vin Diesel seems to have taken it upon himself to become Marvel’s new publicity man, flouting all the usual secrecy in favour of regular updates on the studio’s many and varied projects.
Having recently spilled the beans that he will be voicing Groot in Guardians Of The Galaxy , Diesel has suggested that he will be playing another Marvel character in a film set for release in 2016.
“When I met with Marvel it wasn’t for anything immediate,” says Diesel. “It was to talk about a film that would be introduced in the Phase 3 part of Marvel, not for a few years.”
“It was even talking about something so big I can’t even talk about because it’s like the merging of brands in a way, which I won’t get into,” teases the star. “That was something way, way, way, way, way down the road.”
As for the part of Groot, Diesel explains that as a stopgap measure in order to appease an apparent public demand to see him in Marvel action as soon as possible.
“Marvel talks to me and says ‘We’re going to send something over in two weeks. We want to focus on the 2016 but we also want to, if possible, answer this growing request for something now.’”
Guardians Of The Galaxy opens in the UK on 1 August 2014.
