Sony and Marvel's collaborative Spider-Man reboot is picking up the pace, as Deadline reports that the studios are locking down John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein to scribble Spidey's next adventure.
The pair originally appeared on a shortlist of contenders to direct the movie, but that position went to a candidate who wasn't even named: Cop Car helmer Jon Watts. Along with his announcement came news that Tom Holland would suit up to play the teen webhead. Marisa Tomei is also in talks to play Aunt May.
If Daley and Goldstein hammer out a deal with producers Amy Pascal and Kevin Feige, they'll be scripting the first ever Spider-Man movie to bear the official Marvel stamp of approval. The duo's previous collaborations include Horrible Bosses 1 and 2, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone and Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2, so there's little doubt that they possess the writing chutzpah for the role.
With the pair's joint directorial debut, the Vacation reboot, due to hit screens later this month, the decision might be made at the box office.
Spider-Man is due for release on July 28, 2017.
