The small list of upcoming Obsidian games marks exciting times ahead for any sci-fi and RPG fans. The developer is known for its storytelling, as well as creating adventures that are shaped by player choice, and now, with the recent release of Avowed, you may be wondering what's next.

With Obsidian, you never know what it will have cooking, as proved by its release of wildly different and fantastic games in recent years. There's been an increase in the studio's willingness to experiment and try new things, from the co-op experience Grounded, to the stylized historical mystery, Pentiment. Avowed is Obsidian's latest venture, taking players into a high fantasy world, complete with magic, maces and hunky fish people.

Avowed is already one of the most discussed new games for 2025, and now we've also had our first proper look at the highly anticipated sequel to The Outer Worlds, which also confirmed an expected launch window as well as the news that it will also be among the upcoming PS5 games, too. In short, Obsidian may not have a massive amount of new games, but the titles it is working on are some of the most anticipated around.

The Fallout New Vegas studio was acquired by Microsoft in 2018, meaning they are also some of the biggest upcoming Xbox games to keep an eye out for that will also be coming to Xbox Game Pass on Day One. For a full recap, read on below as we take you through the upcoming Obsidian games on the way.

Avowed

Release date: February 18, 2025
Platform(s): PC, Xbox Series X

Originally slated to launch in 2024 before being delayed, Avowed was one of the most anticipated Xbox exclusives, and for good reason! Obsidian Entertainment returns to the world of Eora – the universe that the studio's stunning Pillars of Eternity games are set in – for a choice-driven RPG with duel-wielding, flexible combat that lets you customize your loadout in a myriad of ways. Playable from both a first-person and third-person perspective, we've loved what we've played so far, especially how we can interact with companions such as Kai with the party camp feature and the rewarding exploration experience. If you're eager to learn about what's in store, be sure to check out our Avowed review.

Release date: TBC 2025
Platform(s): PC, Xbox Series X, PS5

The Outer Worlds 2 was first officially announced back in 2021 with a brief teaser trailer that tapped into the first game's signature sense of humor. While it didn't reveal much beyond confirming the sequel's existence, another trailer dropped during The Game Awards 2024, which gave us our first proper look at the follow-up from Obsidian. Excitingly confirming a 2025 launch window, the gameplay trailer showed some of what's in store, with the promise of delivering "everything that should have been in the first game", including "more action and more weapons".

Set to take place in Arcadia; we'll be exploring a new colony as an Earth Directorate agent who's sent to investigate dangerous rifts. We'll also be meeting a fresh cast of companions who are all said to have dreams of their own - and whether you want to help them fulfill those dreams is up to you. You can expect to once again be able to shape your own adventure and character in what promises to be another choice-driven RPG from the studio.
