Universal remaking The Host
Gore Verbinski’s producing the creature feature
Universal Pictures has signed newcomer Fredrik Bond to direct and Pirates helmer Gore Verbinski to produce a remake of 2006 Korean thriller The Host.
Fredrik, who has worked on music videos and adverts, will take the helm for the movie, which will follow roughly the same plot of a squid-alike beast terrorising a small town.
Smart People writer Mark Poirier is at work on a script that will find a dysfunctional family banding together to rescue a snatched young girl.
Genre blend
"It processes a few genres together, and visually it feels close to the stuff I've made over the last few years in commercials, the tonality of humour and the scale," Bond tells Variety.
You might wonder why Verbinski wouldn’t take a crack at directing it but A) he’s got a lot on his plate and B) he probably won’t want to go near squid again after Dead Man’s Chest and At World’s End.
