Why you can trust 12DOVE
Ever wanted Bono in your lap? Probably not. Happily, you don’t have to be a fan of the politically-charged frontman to be wowed by Catherine Owens and Mark Pellington’s concert film, shot in Mexico City and Buenos Aires during the Oirish superband’s 2006 tour. The result comes far closer than 1988’s Rattle And Hum did to capturing the electricity the group can generate live, the crisp digital 3D lending an extra layer of drama to their bombastic stadium rock. Yes, they’re pompous. But it’s worth tolerating that attitude for stunning performances of ‘Where The Streets Have No Name’ and ‘Sunday, Bloody Sunday’. One of the best moments comes from a genuinely moving rendition of ‘Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own’ – which is Bono’s tribute to his late dad. It makes you want to climb on screen and give the big, eco-friendly lug a hug.
