Described as an experimental horror film, Bruno Dumont's stripped down, shamelessly aimless Twentynine Palms plays like Gus Van Sant's Gerry with a twist. Basically, "experimental" means you have to sit through over 100 tedious minutes of actors David Wissak and Katia Golubeva driving through the American desert, occasionally stopping off at motels to slap their flesh together, bicker, stare into the existential void and munch on shrimp egg foo young. Stay awake (it's tough) and you'll be rewarded with a Deliverance meets Psycho denouement only shocking because of how little sense it makes.
