Rating:

In Dreams: A woman is shot in the head during an apparent carjacking.

The One Where: Joe buys Allison a haunted car, and his new business partner starts sexually harassing him.

Verdict: Family affairs take precedence over the crime of week, which is fortunate since the sub-Christine haunted car nonsense is fairly weak. Even David Cubit seems to be trying to keep a straight face when Scanlon ponders if the car was possessed. Great teaser, though, with Allison dreaming of the car exploding, and the twist with the suspect merely being a model on a poster at the crime scene is a patented piece of Medium script-chicanery. Joe’s problems with his new amorous boss – which drives a wedge between him and Allison – are far more interesting, especially as the couple had been getting along so well at the start of the episode; their playful husband and wife dialogue is both funny and realistic.

Time Checks:
Joe: “It’s ten o’clock at night and I just realised I don’t have my wallet”

Hmmm…: Allison’s dream in which Joe’s snogged by Meghan seems at odd with the kind of visions she normally has. Plus, they usually recur to reveal more of the picture; not in this case. It all seems a bit artificially engineered for the sake of the drama.

Trivia: The sat-nav in the haunted car indicates that the Dubois family lives on Clarke Street (which is at least 7.55 miles long).

Best Line:
Allison: "Hey, I got a good feeling."
Joe: "No, that’s static electricity. That’s your feet dragging on the carpet."
