True Grit trailer debuts online
Less Marlboro country, more No Country...
True Grit , the beloved John Wayne epic practically synonymous with the Western genre, was always going to be a difficult sell for the remake treatment.
You can't bet against the Coen Brothers however; the pair have put any lingering doubts to rest in a haunting, brutal and poetic teaser.
Having the heft of recent Oscar-winner and long time collaborator Jeff Bridges to fill The Duke's boots certainly helps - Bridges cuts a striking figure as US Marshall 'Rooster' Cogburn, eyepatch, stubble and all.
The story follows 14-year-old Mattie Ross, who sets out to capture the man who murdered her father. She enlists the help of Reuben J. “Rooster” Cogburn a tough US Marshall with unorthodox methods.
The pair set out on a quest that will lead them deep into Indian territory, a mission that will ensure their lives will never be the same.

Adding a large helping of Matt Damon, Josh Brolin and the kind of filmmaking that won the brothers an Oscar for No Country For Old Men , the Coen's take on True Grit looks set to have critics rolling out words like masterpiece and instant classic all over again.
No doubt the Academy will be enscribing True Grit on a few gold chaps come March.
