Trion Worlds hacked; Rift players account information possibly compromised

Well, we're pretty sure this isn't how anyone at Trion wanted to start their holiday break - today, the developer of Rift and the upcoming End of Nations has revealed that their servers were hacked, and the naughty hackers made off with some user information. The database included user names, encrypted passwords, dates of birth, email addresses, billing addresses, and the first and last four digits and expiration dates of customer credit cards. In other words, more than enough information to ruin your Fae Yule.

"There is no evidence, and we have no reason to believe, that full credit card information was accessed or compromised in any way," Trion posted on its website, "We have already taken further action to strengthen our systems, even as we, with external security experts, continue to research the extent of the unauthorized access."

Hoping to dull the pain, Trion has also gifted all players with some "we're sorry, baby, we didn't mean it" loot, including three days of complimentary Rift game time and a Moneybags’ Purse, which increases your looted coin by 10%, even if you have not yet purchased Rift.

You can find out more information on the full post, but you might want to start changing your passwords. Unless, of course, you were smart and had different passwords for different services - but who does that?
