Why you can trust 12DOVE
Summer in a sleepy little Polish town, and six-year-old Stefek (Damian Ul, in a fresh performance that just skirts cutesiness) spots a man he’s convinced is his estranged dad.
Teenage sister Elka (Ewelina Walendziak) says he’s not, but she’s got her own agenda – which includes teaching Stefek how to “bribe fate” to make things happen the way you want. So maybe, given the right bribes, this could-be dad can be got back together with Stefek’s mum?
Andrzej Jakimowski’s gentle comedy has hazy, loopy summer charm by the bucketload, enough to make you overlook the often wayward plotting and shaky motivations.
