Trial starts in case of little girl killed by 'Mortal Kombat' moves
Two teens to stand trial for murder
A 17- and 16-year-old have been ordered to stand trial after killing a seven-year-old girl by "imitating moves" from the Mortal Kombat games.
Heather Trujillo, 16, and boyfriend Lamar Roberts, 17, were supposed to be babysitting Trujillo's half-sister Zoe Garcia when they seized the opportunity to drink alcohol and "hit, kick and body-slam" her, in a beating that police said imitated Mortal Kombat.
Witnesses say Roberts performed a back kick on Garcia, from which she did not get up. He then cracked an egg in her mouth, apparently to check if she was faking unconsciousness.
When Garcia regained consciousness Trujillo sent her to bed, according to the documents, but she stopped breathing 15 minutes later.
Trujillo and Roberts tried reviving Zoe under running water before calling 911, but she later died in hospital.
Roberts later told a friend, "he was doing martial arts on her and that his hands were registered weapons."

A Weld County judge ruled last week that there was enough evidence to warrant a trial for Roberts, who's accused of child abuse resulting in the death of the child, on June 20. His girlfriend, Zoe's half-sister, is scheduled to stand trial July 7.
Midway has made no official comment on the accusation of a Mortal Kombat link. First jerk to make a fatality joke gets 7 years' wrath of theinternet.
