Total War: Warhammer is just the start of a new strategy trilogy
As you may have expected, Creative Assembly is partnering up with Games Workshop to make Total War: Warhammer. But that's only the first game in a planned trilogy of titles, each of which will fuse the strategy and kingdom building of Total War with the fraught fantasy world of Warhammer.
Speaking of "fraught," this CGI trailer for the game does a nice job of setting up the humans-versus-everybody-but-the-dwarves conflict, even if it doesn't show what the actual game will look or play like.
The Warhammer Fantasy Battle universe has a ton of factions and associated races, but it sounds like Total War: Warhammer will focus specifically on the human armies of Karl Franz, the dwarven warriors of High King Thorgrim Grudgebearer, the greenskin hordes of Grimgor Ironhide, the undead legions of Mannfred von Carstein, and absolutely zero Space Marines, because that's Warhammer 40,000.
“We’ve always loved the Warhammer universe, and couldn’t wait to approach it with the same colossal scale and authenticity that has characterised our titles for the last 15 years,” project lead Ian Roxburgh said in a press release. “We’re bringing it to life in a way that nobody’s attempted before.”
Sega and Creative Assembly plan to release additional "content packs" for each game in the trilogy, which they say will make the whole package "the largest Total War experience ever." There's no word on a release date yet, and it will likely be a PC exclusive, much like the rest of the Total War series.

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and now I'm a staff writer here at GamesRadar.
