Torment Kickstarter nears end with first video
$3.35 million raised so far for InXile's Planescape successor
Torment: Tides of Numenera is just three days away from the end of its Kickstarter campaign. There was no question whether it would succeed--it raised $1 million in its first eight hours--but this newly released test video assures us that developer InXile is already making progress on the game.
The spiritual successor to Planescape: Torment has a bounty of stretch goals met and even more are waiting past its current total of $3.35 million pledged. Chris Avellone, the original game's lead designer who is now Obsidian Entertainment's creative director, agreed to join the design team at $3.5 million.
Avellone will have a busy schedule working on Torment and Obsidian's own Kickstarted game, Project Eternity. Maybe InXile could invest in some cloning technology with its extra cash?
It's not too late to board the CRPG hype train--pledges of $25 or more come with a digital copy of Torment estimated for release in December 2014.
UPDATE: No big surprise here--inXile revealed in an update today that it will need "a few months past the [previously announced] December 2014 launch date" to spend all that Kickstarter money on development.

I got a BA in journalism from Central Michigan University - though the best education I received there was from CM Life, its student-run newspaper. Long before that, I started pursuing my degree in video games by bugging my older brother to let me play Zelda on the Super Nintendo. I've previously been a news intern for GameSpot, a news writer for CVG, and now I'm a staff writer here at GamesRadar.
