SF fame: It had to. The leather-faced Richards’ appearance in Pirates 3 earns him a place in this Top 10 not so much for the performance itself, but for the fact it has to be one of the best in-jokes in movie history. Johnny Depp had made no secret of the fact that he partly based his performance as Captain Jack on the swaggering Stone, so it made sense to invite Richard’s to play the part of Jack's dad and the keeper of the pirate code. The fact that Richards manages to play the role with such self-mocking aplomb is just the cherry on the cake.
