Top Gun 2 close to hiring screenwriter
Justin Marks in negotiations to pen the sequel
Long-awaited sequel Top Gun 2 looks to be moving forwards once more, with THR reporting that Paramount is in negotiations with a potential screenwriter.
Justin Marks is the writer in question, having recently penned the screenplay for Disney’s update of The Jungle Book , which is currently in production.
With Jerry Bruckheimer having recently joined the studio, the wheels appear to be turning again on a project that had stalled since the tragic passing of the late Tony Scott.
A screenplay had previously been drafted by Peter Craig, focusing on the relevance of traditional pilots in the wake of drone technology, although whether that will be scrapped entirely remains to be seen.
Tom Cruise is still expected to return, so hopefully a deal can be struck with Marks sooner rather than later, and progress can accelerate on a project that seems to have been on the cards for an age. You might even say, we feel the need for speed…
