Tomb Raider movie gets a March 2018 release date
It's been 13 years since Angelina Jolie reprised the role of Lara Croft in Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life, but the gaming icon is finally returning to the silver screen. Back in April we learned that Oscar-winner Alicia Vikander had been cast as the heroine, and now we know when we'll be able to see her in action.
Deadline is reporting that Warner Bros. will release Tomb Raider on March 16, 2018. That was the date WB had previously reserved for The Flash, which may wind up debuting in cinemas closer to summer blockbuster season. As for Tomb Raider's possible box office competition, the recently announced Wreck-It Ralph 2 will be out on March 9, 2018 while Steven Spielberg's Ready Player One will make its cinematic debut on March 30, 2018.
This is one reboot which people seem to be pretty happy about, and with good reason; Vikander's casting is a big win for the franchise, and the recent video games which it sounds like the movie will be taking its cue from have been excellent. Not to mention, director Roar Uthaug has what might be the coolest name in the business...
Directed by Roar Uthaug and starring Alicia Vikander, Tomb Raider will open in cinemas on March 16, 2018.
