Tomb Raider: Crystal Dynamics takes you behind the scenes of debut trailer
Everything you ever wanted to know about Turning Point but felt weird asking
Here's a pretty lengthy behind-the-scenes clip forTurning Point, the debut trailer to Square Enix's upcoming Tomb Raider reboot. Forgive the presumption, but one might assume you watch a fair few game trailers in your day-to-day life. How often do you find yourself thinking, “this game looks like it will be good,” but rather“what a good trailer”? Hopefully not often – any film editor knows the ultimate goal of their work is to be invisible – but Crystal Dynamics was so happy with the work fellow Square Enix subsidiary Visual Works did on the clip, it's put together a short to show you how it was done.
Here's Visual Dynamics' other recent work, the Deus Ex: Human Revolution reveal trailer. You'll have your chance to experience Tomb Raider for yourself when the game releases in Autumn 2012. Since Lara started making mainstream magazine covers more than a decade ago, though, the hype surrounding the games has been almost as much a part of Tomb Raider as the games themselves – so it's only fitting that a three-minute clip should get dissected in a twelve-minute movie whose overriding sentiment is, “wasn't that a great trailer?” While we're sure Crystal Dynamics, in rebooting the series, is eager to get back to the days when playing a new Lara title was cause for anticipation, does a clip like this make you eager to find out what'll be revealed next?
