Timur Bekmambetov talks Wanted 2

Timur Bekmambetov is currently doing the press rounds to promote new movie Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter , but the director has also found time to drop in a little tidbit about Wanted 2 , which he has confirmed will be happening sooner rather than later.

A sequel has long been mooted, with rumours abounding that Angelina Jolie’s character would be brought back for round two. However, nothing concrete has been confirmed until now, with Bekmambetov claiming to have had a recent revelation as to the direction the sequel should take.

"An unbelievable thing happened three weeks ago,” he says, “because we [ had ] stopped, we didn't know what to do for three or four years. Three weeks ago I came up with a great idea and I pitched this idea and everybody fell in love with it. And now I think we're on track. Right now the writer is working on the script, and it will be shocking."

As for what kind of story the sequel will tell, Bekmambetov has confirmed that the focus will remain on Wesley Gibson, James McAvoy’s character from the first film .

“It's a continuation of the story, with Wesley Gibson,” said the director. “Other people are dead, you know, we can't bring them back. The story is the same character, same mythology, but it's got a great twist."

Hopefully we’ll get some more details from Bekmambetov in due course. In the meantime, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter opens in the UK on 20 June 2012.
