THUG 2 skates into view

The latest screenshots of Tony Hawk's Destruction 2 demonstrate a variety of the game's new moves, including a kite-powered Franklin Grind, a fire hydrant Natas Spin and the self-explanatory Spazz Out. As well as allowing you to vent your frustration, such 'tantrum' moves can also count as starting points for combos.

The main focus is the Story mode, a World Destruction Tour that pits Team Hawk against Team Bam. This takes you through a series of set pieces in a number of different cities. (You always start off as a member of Team Hawk although it's been hinted that you may be able to change teams half-way through the game.)

Each area features different guest skaters and characters - in the first level of Boston it's Benjamin Franklin - and, when you find them, you can skate as them as well as your own character. Hidden goals can be found littered around each level while you'll also receive 'text messages' that set you tasks.

As you'd expect, there are more options than ever with regards to creating riders, decks and skate parks, plus you can also create your own graffiti tags and stickers (which can also be used as part of combos). The Bullet Time-esque Slow-Mo Focus also aids in extending combos - obviously the action is decelerated dramatically, plus you're also given a closer view of your skater, which helps you to execute more intricate manoeuvres.

In addition to the sizeable Story mode, THUG 2 also includes a Classic mode that revisits the traditional gameplay of the Tony Hawk's Pro Skater series that was missing from the original Underground.

Tony Hawk's Underground 2 will be released for PS2, Xbox, Gamecube, GBA and PC in October
