This week's new posters
New one-sheets for The Spirit, Australia and The Changeling
This week’s poster releases have been a mix of Oscar contenders, scary movies and mainstream blockbusters from next year. You can’t say that Hollywood isn’t covering all bases.
Top of our list to pay attention to is Baz Luhrmann’s Australia. Despite it being Luhrmann we haven’t kept our eye on this. Maybe we should of. The poster makes it look like it’s Oz’s answer to Gone with the Wind. Not a bad thing in our book.
Continuing with the touch of Golden Age Hollywood is Clint Eastwood’s Changeling. It feels reminiscent of not only film noir, but Brief Encounter too. Is Angelia Jolie actually capable of a 1920’s heroine? This poster seems to say so.
Less impressive is The Spirit, which needs to try harder. We thought we were done with portrait shots of mysterious looking comic book heroes. Apparently not. It's a shame, as we’re quite excited about the film. The poster just doesn’t sell it.
And the less said about Easy Virtue, the better. Who thought mixing semi-famous British character actors with a dog and a soundtrack advertisement would be a good way to convey the point of this picture?
