There's way more Spider-Man than you thought in Civil War
It's no secret that a new version of Spider-Man will make his debut in Captain America: Civil War before headlining his own standalone movie in 2017. It's exciting stuff for webslinger fans, as this take on the character marks the first time ever that Marvel is directly involved with bringing him to the screen. Early reactions to the movie have praised Tom Holland's performance as the young superhero - and now another tidbit has emerged concerning his role. Ready? Spider-Man's going to be in the movie more than we expected. Like, a lot more.
We knew that Spider-Man would be in the movie - hello, awesome trailer moment! - but we assumed that it'd be the obligatory cameo. According to Mike Sampson over at Screen Crush, who caught the first press screening last week, Holland's part takes up a considerable chunk of screen time:
@MarvelousRealm That's about right. Maybe 10 mins of Parker, a good 20 mins of Spidey.April 9, 2016
Bearing in mind that Anthony and Joe Russo planned to establish this new Spidey before he leaps off into his own solo movie, this news makes sense. It's nevertheless a nice surprise to hear that he's getting such a wedge of screen time. As for what that entails, we're still in the dark.
It's rumored that in the movie Tony Stark drafts him onto Team Iron Man and also fashions Parker a fancy new Spider-Man suit. Perhaps that's how he lures him, with promises of better superhero duds? If that's the case we might get a scrap of backstory as Stark hunts him down or simply learn about Parker when he's thrown into the thick of it with The Avengers. Either way, it's another reason to get very excited about Civil War. You know, if you weren't already.
Directed by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, and starring Chris Evans, Robert Downey, Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Chadwick Boseman, Tom Holland, Anthony Mackie, and Sebastian Stan, Captain America: Civil War opens in UK cinemas on April 29, 2016 and May 6, 2016 in the US.
